Yes, the next phase of our process is to "study existing proposals and
implementations of [requirements] and [mechanisms]." I will put out a call
on the discussion list to start a thread on this when we've had enough of
the mechanisms conversation. :-)
As for the blog, the Tagcommons.org group is open to anyone who has the
motivation to join the discussion list. I am consciously trying to guide
this activity as a collaborative project with engineering goals, rather than
as a forum for arguing for existing schemes. There are many instances of
almost anything you can think of on the web. I think it would help to hear
about existing schemes in the context of our dialog. For example, your
experience with tag types surfaces some important issues to consider in how
to handle extensions and "meta" data about tags. That adds value to our
conversation, and we can use it to drive requirements and design decisions.
If I had just read the schema I would have probably not noticed the issue of
types and how they might be a Pandora's box.
