Last evening at the Identity Workshop dinner in Mountain View Pat Henry, Tom
Gruber, Kevin Marks, Drummond Reed, and Thomas Vander Wal had a discussion
looking at the Microformat and XRI/XDI format structures. I am relaying this
discussion from memory, corrections and annotations are welcome.
The discussion was an exploration looking at the existing and near future
specification structures for tag data and the potential for converting the
data into RDF (as well as out of RDF).
These constructs have been perceived as potentially viable as means for
structuring tag data for conversion to RDF for portability &
interoperability.
The conversation between the people identified the capabilities for XRI and
Microformats to be converted to RDF. But, also opened the possibilities for
ease of conversion between XRI and Microformats. Pat pointed out the XRI 2.1
spec has potential for increased richness of understanding beyond RDF
capabilities. The XRI 2.1 proposed spec is now more human readable and more
tag friendly.
It seems both Microformats and XRI can be viable options for moving forward
for TagCommons.
All the best,
Thomas
